Abstract Floral Bun Cover

Designed by Moe Folsom  -  May 2013

This pattern will make a bun snood that will fit shoulder length hair.  For a larger snood, I recommend either repeating round 4 a couple times, or using a larger thread/yarn and a larger hook.

Materials Used:

Aunt Lydia's Bamboo crochet thread (size 10) in White, size 7 crochet hook, scunci ouchless ponytail elastic.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain, ch sp = chain space, slp st = slip stitch,  dbl = double crochet, begcluster = begining cluster (special stitch), dblcluster = double crochet cluster (special stitch), yo - yarn over.

Special Stitches:

Begcluster:  ch 3, yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on hook).  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (3 loops left on hook).  Yo and pull through all 3 loops.

dblcluster:  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (2 loops left on hook).  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on hook).  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops (4 loops left on hook).  Yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Pattern:

Round 7:  Slp st across 3 dbls into ch 3 sp.  (Ch 3, sc into next ch sp) all the way around.  Slp st into first ch to close.  (15 ch sp total)

Round 8:  Slp st into ch sp, ch 3 (this counts as a dbl), 4 dbl in same ch sp.  5 dbl in every ch sp around.  Slp st into first ch 3 (dbl) to close.  (15 sets of 5 dbl total)

Round 9:  Ch 3 (this counts as a dbl), 3 dbl in same stitch.  Do 4 dbl in between each set of 5 dbl all the way around.  Slp st into first ch 3 (dbl) to close.  (15 sets of 4 dbl total)

Cameo Barefoot Sandal

Designed by Moe Folsom - May 2013

Difficulty:  Intermediate/Advanced Beginner

This is my first real attempt at improvising a pattern, and after a few tries and a couple of hours, I had my very own original barefoot sandals!   I really love barefoot sandals, and most of the patterns I’ve seen have been a triangular shape, so I decided to try a round pattern, which when worn is more of an oval shape that reminded me of a cameo.

This is also my first try at a written pattern, so bare with me.  I used a combination of 3 shades of pink embroidery floss (Colors A, B, and C), size 3 crochet thread in Bridal White(Color D), and a size C hook to create these.  For variations, I would add some beads or charms to the ends of the laces, or replace the laces themselves with ribbon.  Any 4 colors or threads will do, so use your creativity to create your own ^_^

Materials:  (as shown)  2 skeins each of 3 shades of pink/fushia embroidery floss (Color A, B, and C), Redheart Fashion crochet thread size 3 in Bridal White (Color D), Size C crochet hook.

Abbreviations:
Yo = yarn over , ch = chain, ch sp = chain space, slp st = slip stitch, sc = single crochet, hdbl = half double crochet, dbl = double crochet

Special stitches:

Beg 3dbl cluster:  ch 3, yo and wrap around the current ch sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops will be left on hook)  yo wrap around the current ch sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops will be left on hook) yo and pull through all 3 loops.

3dbl cluster:  yo and wrap around current ch sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on hook), yo and wrap around same ch sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on hook),  yo wrap around same ch sp again, yo and pull through 2 loops (4 loops left on hook), yo and pull through all 4 loops.

Split dbl cluster:  yo and wrap around current ch sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on hook), yo and enter through center ch of ch3 sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on hook), yo and pull through all 3 loops.

Rev split dbl cluster:  yo, enter through center  ch of ch3 sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on hook), yo and wrap around ch6 sp, yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on hook), yo and pull through all 3 loops.

Motif Pattern:

Round 1:  (Color A)  Make a slip knot and ch 6.  Slp st into first ch creating a ring.  Beg 3dbl cluster, ch 2, (3dbl cluster, ch 2)x8.  Slp st into top of beginning cluster.  Fasten off and weave in ends. (9 clusters total)

Round 2:  (Color B) Slp st into any ch2 sp.  Beg 3dbl cluster, ch 2, 3dbl cluster in same ch2 sp, ch 2.  (3dbl cluster, ch2, 3dbl cluster, ch2) in each ch2 sp all the way around.  Slp st into top of first cluster.  Fasten off and weave in ends.  (18 clusters total)

Round 3:  (Color C)  Slp st into any ch2 sp directly above a cluster from the first round.  Ch 6, sk 2 ch2 spaces, sc into 3rd ch sp.  Repeat all the way around, slp st into first ch to join.  (6 ch spaces total)

Round 4:  (Color C)  Ch 1, (13 sc in ch6 sp)x 6.  Slp st into first sc to join.

Round 5:  (Color C)  Ch 5, skip 6 sc, sc into 7th sc all the way around.  (12 ch spaces total)

Round 6:  (Color C)  Ch1, 9 sc in each ch5 space all the way around.  Slp st into 1st sc to join.  Fasten off and weave in ends.

Round 7:  (Color D)  Slp st into 5th (center sc) of any of the arms.  (Ch 6, skip 7 sc, sc in 8th sc from hook.  Ch 3, skip 7 sc, sc in 8th sc from hook.  Ch 6, skip 7 sc, sc in 8th sc from hook.  Sc in next 8 sc) x 3.  Slp st into first ch to join.

Round 8:  (Color D)  Ch 1, *(5 sc, 1 hdbl, 2 dbl) in ch 6 sp.  Split dbl cluster (you should be in center ch of ch3 space), ch 6, rev split dbl cluster (you should be in second ch6 sp), (2 dbl, 1 hdbl, 5 sc) in same  ch 6 sp.  Ch 6.)*  Repeat from * one more time in the next set of ch spaces.  (5 sc, 1 hdbl, 2 dbl) in fifth ch6 sp.  Split dbl cluster (you should be in center ch of ch3 space)  ch 23.  Sc in 3rd ch from split dbl cluster (this forms the toe loop).  Ch 3.  Rev split dbl cluster (you should be in last ch6 space), (2 dbl, 1 hdbl, 5 sc) in same ch sp.  Ch 6.  Slp st into first sc to join.  Fasten off and weave in ends.

Straps:  (Color D)  Slp st into first edge ch6 sp clockwise from toe loop.  Ch 20-50 depending on thread used and foot size (This loop will wrap around the arch of the foot) and join onto  5th edge ch6 sp clockwise from toe loop.  Fasten off and weave in ends.  Repeat again in the 2nd and 4th edge ch6 spaces clockwise from toe loop (this loop will wrap around the back of your heel).

Laces:  (Color D)  This will be the part that you lace from your ankles up your calf. Ch 120 (or desired length), sc into 3rd edge ch6 sp, directly opposite the toe loop on the motif, ch same length as beginning ch prior to sc.  Knot ends.
Try ‘em on and rock ‘em out. . .You’re done!!!
