Abstract Floral Bun Cover

Designed by Moe Folsom  -  May 2013

This pattern will make a bun snood that will fit shoulder length hair.  For a larger snood, I recommend either repeating round 4 a couple times, or using a larger thread/yarn and a larger hook.

Materials Used:

Aunt Lydia's Bamboo crochet thread (size 10) in White, size 7 crochet hook, scunci ouchless ponytail elastic.

Abbreviations:
ch = chain, ch sp = chain space, slp st = slip stitch,  dbl = double crochet, begcluster = begining cluster (special stitch), dblcluster = double crochet cluster (special stitch), yo - yarn over.

Special Stitches:

Begcluster:  ch 3, yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops (2 loops left on hook).  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (3 loops left on hook).  Yo and pull through all 3 loops.

dblcluster:  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops on hook (2 loops left on hook).  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops (3 loops left on hook).  Yo and wrap around ch sp.  Yo and pull through 2 loops (4 loops left on hook).  Yo and pull through all 4 loops on hook.

Pattern:

Round 1:  Make a slip knot and ch 6.  Slp st in first chain made to form a loop.  Begcluster, ch 4, (dblcluster, ch4) x 4.  Slp stitch into top of begcluster to close.  (5 clusters total)

Round 2:  Slp st into ch 4 sp,begcluster, ch4, dblcluster in same ch sp, ch4.  (Dblcluster in next ch sp, ch 4, dblcluster in same ch sp, ch 4) x 4  Slp st into top of begcluster to close.  (10 clusters total)

Round 3:  Ch 7, skip current ch 4 sp, (4 dbl, ch 3, 4 dbl) in next ch sp.  (Ch 4, skip next ch sp, (4 dbl, ch 3, 4dbl) in next ch sp) x 3.  Ch 4, skip next ch sp.  Ch 4, 4 dbl, ch 3, 3 dbl in next ch sp.  Slp stich into 3rd ch on ch 7 sp to close.

Round 4:  Slp st across current ch sp, and through the first 4 dbl.  You should be in the ch 3 sp.  Ch 3 (this counts as a dbl), 2 dbl in same ch sp.  Ch 3, 3 dbl in same ch sp.  Ch 6.  (Skip next ch sp, (3 dbl, ch 3, 3 dbl,) in ch3 sp, ch 6) x 4.  Slp st into top of 1st ch 3 (dbl) to close.

Round 5:  Slp stich across 3 dbls into the ch3 sp.  Ch 3 (this counts as a dbl), 2 dbl, ch 3, 3 dbl, ch 3, 3 dbl, ch 5.  (Skip next ch sp, (3 dbl, ch 3, 3dbl, ch 3, 3 dbl) in ch 3 sp, ch 5) x 4.  Slp st into top of first ch 3 (dbl) to close.

Round 7:  Slp st across 3 dbls into ch 3 sp.  (Ch 3, sc into next ch sp) all the way around.  Slp st into first ch to close.  (15 ch sp total)

Round 8:  Slp st into ch sp, ch 3 (this counts as a dbl), 4 dbl in same ch sp.  5 dbl in every ch sp around.  Slp st into first ch 3 (dbl) to close.  (15 sets of 5 dbl total)

Round 9:  Ch 3 (this counts as a dbl), 3 dbl in same stitch.  Do 4 dbl in between each set of 5 dbl all the way around.  Slp st into first ch 3 (dbl) to close.  (15 sets of 4 dbl total)

Round 11:  Get your ponytail holder ready, ch 2, you're going to make 2 sc (around the elastic) inbetween every dbl from the previous round all the way around.  Slip stich into first sc to close.  Fasten off and weave in your ends.

Put in on and rock it out. . .You're Done!!!

  1. Thank you, I've been looking for one that's truly free. This one was easy to make too.
